Top Nine Things You Might Not Know About… Donald Trump

Hello and welcome to a series I’m starting called ‘Top Nine Things’. Why Nine? Well everyone and their dog makes top 10 lists on the internet nowadays so I thought with less is more and all that, nine is good enough for me (and I’m inherently lazy). I’m looking for more obscure things that aren’t widely known to make this list, i.e. something you won’t find after a 2 minute Google or learn watching the news. With that in mind I hope you enjoy the first entry on everyone’s favourite orange clown, Donald Trump! (I don’t own the picture)

Donald Trump

  1. This one is more well-known but might surprise you if you don’t know it. Despite owning a winery and releasing his own brand of vodka, he doesn’t drink alcohol. This is because his older brother, Fred Trump, was an alcoholic and tragically died from of his alcoholism in 1981. Before his death, Donald’s brother told him ‘don’t drink’ and ‘don’t smoke’ and because of his respect for his brother, he hasn’t touched a drop (except for taking communion apparently). You have to admit here, even if he is an idiot in arguably the most powerful seat in the western world, he has a heart in there somewhere.
  2. Although it is barely in the film, his famous Trump Tower doubled as Wayne Tower in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in the scene where Bruce’s Lambo is towed away.
  3. When he was a kid, he asked to borrow his brother’s building blocks to make a taller skyscraper than he would otherwise have been able to do. Once finished, he glued to blocks together so he wouldn’t have to give them back. Bit of a dick move.
  4. It is well known that of his children, Tiffany is his least favourite – at least that is how it comes across. She didn’t get a non-capped credit card from daddy as a kid/teenager like the rest of them. In fact, Ivanka asked Donald to give Tiffany a credit card for Christmas when she went to college, and this was then capped at $500 a month. To be fair it’s more than most get but apparently she had to count every penny each month.
  5. Donald Trump has filed for bankruptcy four times (or six depending on what source you go by); 1991, 1992, 2004 and as recent as 2009. However, in each case this has just been one business of his massive empire. Adding up the debt all four companies accrued at the time of filing for bankruptcy the final figure is astonishing at an estimated 5.4 billion dollars.
  6. In 1999, he proposed a 14.25% tax on people with over $10 million dollars or more and that it would wipe out the American national debt, also meaning 99% of Americans would see reductions in their income taxes. Now, he did this probably because he wanted to run for president in 2000, but still, it was a nice gesture.
  7. Quick one here. Apparently his wife, Melania, cuts his hair.
  8. He tried to stop the Scottish Government building a wind farm because it would ruin the view from his golf resort (one of eighteen). The Scottish Government ignored him and approved the plans anyway.
  9. He has been sued a staggering 3,500 times (probably more by now). Most of these relate to contract disputes, defamation cases, allegations of sexual harassment and tax disputes.
